Lingual Braces
Adult orthodontic patients often choose to pursue less obvious alignment correction through solutions such as lingual braces that are hidden behind the teeth. The treatment is a bit more complicated than traditional braces, and therefore has a higher cost. Patients should expect to experience some level of discomfort with the brackets closer to the tongue, and it takes time to get used to speaking correctly with lingual braces.

Ceramic Braces
Clear brackets that are camouflaged with the natural color of teeth are made from a ceramic material rather than obvious metal. The brackets are applied in the same way as traditional braces, without the esthetic concerns of dark metal. Treatment takes around the same time as metal, but there are some disadvantages to using ceramic brackets. Cost is slightly higher than metal, and the chance of brackets breaking is higher with the softer ceramic material. Brackets are usually bulkier to make up for the fragility of the material so this is a major consideration when deciding on this option.

Orthodontic Aligners
Invisalign and other clear, removable retainers are very popular solutions for patients that desire fixing many different cosmetic dentistry issues. Aligners can correct gaps in the teeth, overbite, underbite, crowding, and general crookedness as desired. Not only are patients able to gradually improve the natural placement of their teeth, it’s done very discretely. The retainers are worn throughout each day over a period of time, and periodically changed out to continue shifting the teeth. There are no brackets to get in the way of proper cleaning, and fewer appointments necessary with the dentist when compared to braces.
